Get Ready to Move

Having just moved recently I remember counting down the days while struggling with how much work I still had to do. It didn't seem to matter how hard I worked, or how much time I spent packing... things just kept popping out of nowhere. In fact, it felt like the more I tried to get done, the farther away I was from accomplishing that goal. I wish I could tell you that I had a very organized move- instead the move was chaotic, and on Moving Day I just wasn't ready. Even though I knew I was moving, and even though I had spent days counting down and hours devoted to packing... I was almost totally unprepared.

Throughout the Bible we are told of another move, a different move... one from this world into the next. We are told that the Risen Christ (Romans 1:4) is already preparing a place for us, a place He expects to bring us back to (John 14:2-3). We are told that HE will come again, and that He will gather His children and bring them to their new, permanent home.

And just like my move, when this happens, most of us will be unprepared. Instead of waiting for that hour, most of us will be rushing around trying to get everything done and taken care of. We will be rushing around and let ourselves get distracted by the unimportant things... and even though we had all the warning and time in the world, we will be surprised as if by a thief in the night. (1 Thessalonians 5:2)

Take an honest look at the world we live in today. Take a serious look at 2 Timothy 3:1-5, and ask yourself if today's world fits that description. Ask yourself how many people in today's world rejoice in their own pleasures instead of serving God, how many people are proud and boastful, how many people put money above all else.

All around the world seems to be chaos, things that seem to be happening without any reason. We are flocked by the realization that the world is no longer safe, and are plagued by terroristic threats, wars, and natural disasters of unrealistic proportions (Luke 21:10-12).

In some ways it reminds me of the chaos that I went through, that I felt right before I made my move. The biggest difference is that with my move I knew the day and the time, but with Christ we do not. (Mark 13:32) We cannot let ourselves be distracted by the little things, or let ourselves be carried away from His Word. We cannot follow others who live without self-control; who live without God. We must instead be waiting... Actively, offensively, protecting our faith and waiting for our Lord to come.

If Christ came right now, would you be ready? What about when He does come?
