Only One God

Today there are a lot of different views about who God is. Even in Christian faith there are those who believe that God is just a super human, or an alien from another planet. While He is great and super powerful, He is not unique. But the Bible tells us just the opposite, from the very get go!

The very first book of the Bible (Genesis 1:1) tells us that God existed before the Heavens and the Earth, He existed before the stars and the angels (Job 38:6-7), in fact, God calls Himself the Alpha and the Omega (Revelation 1:8), the beginning of everything, and the end.To make it more clear, God says in Isaiah 43:10, "...before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me."

But does this mean that there is only one god? Could another god exist along side of God? Again, that we may know that God is the one, true, and only God, He tells us in Isaiah 45:21-22 that "there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me. Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other."

This is again re-emphasized in Isaiah 46:9, where He says, "...I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. "

This is why the first commandment, when God commands us not to have any other gods than Him (Exodus 20:3), is so important. There is only one God, one creator, and one savior... there are no others. To acknowledge other gods, or to claim to be able to become a god/ equal to god, or even to put things above Him (ie money, work, even our families) is blasphemy!

God is but one God, one who has been, and always will be. A God who was the beginning, and is now, and will always be. Apart from Him there will not, nor can there be another like Him.
