God is Omniscient

Send to a Friend   Print

If God is omnipotent (all-powerful), and omnipresent (present everywhere), it would only make sense that a God who knew how to do everything, and a God that was everywhere, would know everything, right?

Unlike our friends or family, God can see deep into our hearts and into our minds, which means He knows Everything we are thinking (both good and bad). The Bible tells us that we cannot keep any secrets from Him, nor can we hide any of our thoughts. Psalm 90:8 tells us just that, by saying:

In Paul's letter to the Hebrews, he reminds them that nothing is hidden from God, a God who sees our every action (Psalm 33:13-15), by saying, "Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account."

Jeremiah 11:20 tells us that God knows our very hearts, our very thoughts, even when we try to hide them or cover them up.

But does God hold all wisdom? Does He hold all knowledge and understanding?

Daniel says that BOTH wisdom and power are God's. He tells us that God gives wisdom to the wise, and grants knowledge to the discerning. God reveals deep and hidden things that we otherwise would not understand (Daniel 2:20-22).

Today, in medicine researchers are struggling to understand how the brain works... Unlike us, God already knows how the brain works (after all, He created it (Genesis 1:27)), but He also knows what the brain is doing, and what it is thinking. There is no knowledge in the universe that God does not possess, and there is nothing that can be held secret from Him.

For God is above all things, and in all things, and through all things (Ephesians 4:6).

Psalms 33:13-15
[13] The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. [14] From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth. [15] He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works.

Daniel 2:20-22
[20] Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: [21] And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: [22] He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.

Genesis 1:27
[27] So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Ephesians 4:6
[6] One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
