Have You Accepted God's Gift of Love, Salvation through His Son Jesus Christ? Tell Me More
God is Omnipresent
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,"
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
16 your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
In other words, no matter where we go or where we try to hide, God is still present and able to see what we are doing. Moses also states the omnipresence of God in Deuteronomy 4:39, where he says, "...God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other." And Paul sums up the omnipresence of God quite nicely in his letter to the Church of Ephesus by saying, "one God... who is over all and through all and in all." (Ephesians 4:6)
But how is God able to live on earth, and in Heaven, and all around? In the book of 1st Kings, we are told that God is greater than both the earth and the heavens (1 Kings 8:27). And how can God be greater than both the heavens and the earth... well, because God created them, just like He created mankind. (Genesis 1:1)
God, the Father of All, is the only being who is everywhere. He is the God that is nearby, and also the God that is far away. It doesn't matter where we try to hide, God can see us in our darkest most secret places, for He fills both the heavens and the earth (Jeremiah 23:23-24). He can see into our hearts and into our minds, knowing even our deepest thoughts and secrets (Jeremiah 11:20)... no matter where we go, God is there.
Ephesians 4:6
[6] One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
1 Kings 8:27
[27] But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?
Genesis 1:1
[1] In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Jeremiah 23:23-24
[23] Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off? [24] Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.
Jeremiah 11:20
[20] But, O LORD of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.
