Creation of Man

Send to a Friend   Print

When God created mankind, He did something very different from His creation of all the other plants and animals. When He created man He formed him out of the dust of the earth (Genesis 2:7), artisitcally and with a direct purpose. God, also, breathed life directly into man, giving man life from His spirit (Genesis 2:7). And Perhaps even more importantly, He created mankind in His own image (Genesis 1:27), an image of the great creator, the most holy, and the supreme authority of all. It is very clear, that from the very beginning, man was to be set apart from fish, monkeys, zebras, elephants, and other animals.

But why was man created so uniquely, and in such a special way? This is because God had a special purpose for man from the very beginning. God created man to be a companion (Genesis 3:8a), a friend, and someone who would worship and praise Him for who He was (Isaiah 43:7). God created man to be someone who could enjoy His new creation, and reap from His great works. He did not create man to be a slave but rather He gave man dominion over all of the earth (Gensis 1:26), provided for man's every need (Genesis 2:9), and blessed mankind (Genesis 1:28).

Along with giving man special attributes and responsibilities, God also gave man the free will to make his own choices. God did not force man to serve Him, nor does He force man to obey His commandments. With Adam and Eve, God let them make the decision as to whether they would serve Him and obey Him.

Genesis 2:7
[7] And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Genesis 2:7
[7] And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Genesis 1:27
[27] So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Isaiah 43:7
[7] Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.

Gensis 1:26

Genesis 2:9
[9] And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Genesis 1:28
[28] And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
