"You're a liar! A liar!" The woman painfully screamed at the defendant on a court tv show. "I know you cheated on me!" Of course, the man quickly denied it, using every excuse in the book.

"Your honor, she's crazy," he pleaded. And as the woman continued to explain her case, I couldn't help but feel sympathetic. It seemed that she had done everything she could to keep the relationship going, while the man did everything he could to destroy it.

The man, of course, was nothing more than a "player." He had cheated on her numerous times, and when caught he would apologize, begging her to take him back... only to cheat on her again- almost immediately. Watching his demeanor in court, and looking at how he treated her, it was hard not to become angry as I lost all respect for him. I could never do that to my fiancee, I told myself.

As I went to bed that night, the case kept haunting me... there was just something very similar about it. That's when it hit me; I could never cheat on my fiancee, but I was cheating on God. Instead of trying to please God in everything, I often please myself; I often please Satan [this realization left me speechless, and I hope it does the same for you].

Just like the man, I continue to "cheat" on God by giving in to temptations... giving in to the very being who waged a war against God. And like all Christians, I come back to God, and ask Him for forgiveness, only to fall to the same temptations shortly afterwards... "cheating" on Him once again. And just like the man, so often I try to deny it, telling myself that it's not a big deal, or that I am really in the right, just like Satan wants. (1 John 1:10)

Jesus said that if we loved Him, we would obey Him (John 14:15). He also said that the most important thing to God, was that we love God with all of our heart, mind, and soul (Matthew 22:37-38). Yet, as Christians we are constantly cheating on Him, aligning ourselves with His adversary. Cheating on Him, with the worst being possible.

It's funny, how we look at one man cheating on his wife in distaste, and often with anger. Yet we do not look at our own actions against God in the same light. Instead, like the man, we dismiss the pain, frustration, and anger we cause God as if it was nothing, as if it "wasn't a big deal."

Today, will you renew your vows with God, devoting yourself to Him in every way. Will you look at the ways you are cheating on Him, and do everything you can to resist Satan? (James 4:7) Are you willing to do this for a God who loves you more than anything?

A God who while you were cheating on Him, sent His only Son to take your penalty, just so you could be with Him in paradise? A God who was willing to die for you, when you were only looking out for yourself. (Romans 5:8-10)
