A Bible Sluggard
The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth.
- Proverbs 26:15
- Proverbs 26:15
One of the worst habits people can have is being lazy, being a sluggard. We are so influenced by the society today that we take almost everything for granted, such as technology, exercise equipment, cleaning supplies when back in the day people had to do it by hand, they had to spend hours completing a job. I'm not saying that it is wrong that we don't have to do all the work but sometimes the habit of being lazy affects our walk with God.
I find that sometimes I struggle with reading the Word of God, or simply praying because I just don't feel like it. I get so lazy, I expect people to pray for me instead because I don't want to take the time to think. Sometimes I don't want to take the time to read God's Word because it takes mental effort, and the truth is being lazy is wrong because it takes away our focus from God, it takes away our effort in pleasing Him. That is one reason why we wonder why we aren't growing to be like Him, and why we don't find the joy that we should have.
After all, 1 Thessalonians 5:17, says to pray continually, pray without ceasing. Despite our laziness, we need to learn overcome our flesh, to submit to God and flee from the devil (James 4:7).
Even though we don't feel like reading the Word of God, we need to remember how we will feel afterward compared to before we started reading. We need to remember that we will grow from studying and reading the Bible, and we will find that special joy that only comes after spending time with God. (Psalm 119:103)
What about you? Are you a Christian that isn't always willing to read God's Word? Are you struggling to grow just as I am? Why not change that habit of being lazy and spend time with our Wonderful God through prayer and studying His Word? Remember the joy that God has promised those who are faithful to him.

I know this is so true I struggle too with this I do not live a lazy life it is rather busy but I procrastinate in reading the word and I shouldn't knowing how I fell afterward and where it is going to get me.

I totally agree that laziness does seperate us from God...If we just put in a tiny smidge of the effort in Him that He puts in us, we would be so blessed...God could then really work in our lives the way He has planned....totally hits home!

I would to say amen to this article. This so timely in these last day that we are living and these are the last days that we are living, homosexuality, unnatural affections. The moral standard that we are living has total decline in our society. It seems these people with these agendas have increase in the media and in our culture.Let us focus on the impotant things Like Jesus,Holy Ghost,Bible.Let us come before our Lord in repentence and ask for forgiveness. As a congration and individual come in contrition before a Holy God.I know that we deserve judgement before a Holy God.Lord I ask and cry out to you that you forgive this day.I need yor Mercy and your Grace.Cleanse me this day that i can come to you and say I want to follow you all of my days.I want to read your word and study yor Word and pray that I may abide in you this day.Even when I think doing all the right things before you I am not and I ask for forgiveness of not being consecrated before a Holy God.

I know for myself sometimes I almost have to force myself to read the Bible... it's just a lot easier to watch tv or play video games... a good reminder that we need to make sure we focus on the things that are important. Thanks!
