A Bible Sluggard

One of the worst habits people can have is being lazy, being a sluggard. We are so influenced by the society today that we take almost everything for granted, such as technology, exercise equipment, cleaning supplies when back in the day people had to do it by hand, they had to spend hours completing a job. I'm not saying that it is wrong that we don't have to do all the work but sometimes the habit of being lazy affects our walk with God.

I find that sometimes I struggle with reading the Word of God, or simply praying because I just don't feel like it. I get so lazy, I expect people to pray for me instead because I don't want to take the time to think. Sometimes I don't want to take the time to read God's Word because it takes mental effort, and the truth is being lazy is wrong because it takes away our focus from God, it takes away our effort in pleasing Him. That is one reason why we wonder why we aren't growing to be like Him, and why we don't find the joy that we should have.

After all, 1 Thessalonians 5:17, says to pray continually, pray without ceasing. Despite our laziness, we need to learn overcome our flesh, to submit to God and flee from the devil (James 4:7).

Even though we don't feel like reading the Word of God, we need to remember how we will feel afterward compared to before we started reading. We need to remember that we will grow from studying and reading the Bible, and we will find that special joy that only comes after spending time with God. (Psalm 119:103)

What about you? Are you a Christian that isn't always willing to read God's Word? Are you struggling to grow just as I am? Why not change that habit of being lazy and spend time with our Wonderful God through prayer and studying His Word? Remember the joy that God has promised those who are faithful to him.
