When a little boy was asked, "how do you know when Satan's near," he replied, "well, you just look for the pitch fork!" The truth is, Satan does not want Christians to know that he is near, but rather he waits for us to lower our guard... and then when we least expect it, he doesn't come in with flames and a pitchfork, but by twisting the Word of God and what we know is right. He comes in rejecting God's Word, and appealing to our own desires.

Perhaps there is no greater example of this than in Genesis 3, when the serpent talks to Eve, and asks her a simple question, "Did God really say..." It seems like such a trivial question, but this by itself presents one of the greatest dangers to Christianity today. All around the world, it seems like theologians are saying, "Did God really say..." or "Did Jesus really say..."

The next thing Satan says to Eve is, "Whoa! God said that... you won't surely die, that is more or less a metaphor." He looks at Eve, and he let's her see the fruit, the fruit that she was desiring, and then He says, "Eve, if you eat this fruit, you will be LIKE God!" Lastly, Satan uses Eve by having her give the fruit to her husband, which causes him to fall, and all of man to be condemned. (Genesis 3:2-6)

When we look at it, it seems like such a trivial thing. A piece of fruit, and a matter of technicalities. Satan tells Eve, "you're not going to die... well, at least not right now," and "you will be like God... well you will know what is right and wrong like He does." Yet, what Eve felt was a trivial subject, wasn't such a small manner to God.

Today we have many different ideas on the Bible, many different perspectives. Just as Satan did, many of today's Christians are challenging God's Word, and if it should be taken literally, or metaphorically. Questioning whether His commandments were meant for 2,000 years ago, or today. Even questioning whether the Gospels are correct, or if we should follow the Gnostic principles of Christ or popular, desirable ideas of "modern spirituality."

Today, Satan is very active in the world... not with a pitchfork, but with distortion of the Word of God. Today, Satan is constantly asking, "Did God really say?" Are you prepared to do what God really did say? Are you prepared to do what God tells us in His Word?
