Let Us Be Thankful

Here we are, the first Monday after Thanksgiving. My Thanksgiving went very well, and I was blessed to be able to spend time with my family, and friends, and those who I am very thankful for. All of the wonderful people who have helped me become who I am today. I still remember my Thanksgiving prayer, where I thanked the Lord for all His blessings; for my family, my friends, the food, safe travel... pretty much everything in my life. But I did forget one thing... the thing I am most thankful for.

In midst of all the things I thanked God for, I forgot to thank Him for sending His only son to die for me. I forgot to thank Him for His mercy, and His forgiveness. I forgot to thank the Lord for taking a sinner, a nobody, a loser like me... and instead of holding all of my faults against me, He forgave me and made me part of His family. He took me, a traitor who had sinned against Him, and made me His child (John 1:12-13).

How many times do we forget to thank God for this wonderful gift? How often do we look at ourselves and say, "Without God, I really am nothing... without His Son, I would be dead to sin..." We are all blessed in very different ways. Some are blessed with abundant families, and some are blessed by their friends. Some are blessed with material items, while others are blessed by the talents God that has given them. But we are all blessed to be able to have a personal relationship with God, through His Son, Jesus Christ. We are all blessed that His Son took our place on the Cross, so that we may have eternal life. We have all been blessed with the greatest blessing of all.

As we enter this Holiday season, may we remember the blessings we have received, and not the ones we haven't. Rich or poor, may we remember the price that God paid, just to have a personal relationship with us. May we remember that we have a God who loves us so much, that He sent His only son to die while we were still lost, still sinners (Romans 5:8)... and may we be thankful.
